I find myself growing increasingly ill at ease as the first anniversary of the World Trade Center bombings draws near. It isn't the threat of future terrorist attacks on American Soil that worries me so much as it is the terrorist attacks that the United States will make on foreign soil in the near future. It isn't the threat of some lunatic taking liberties with a vial of anthrax that worries me so much as it is the thought of George W. Bush & Co. continuing to strip away a civil liberty a day that my grandfather fought so hard to preserve for me in World War II. It isn't the lack of security I feel when walking through a busy airport that worries me so much as it is the thought of a Gestapo like "Homeland Security” force arresting me for having a funny look on my face as I walk through that airport. It isn't the thought of losing all of my freedoms if a foreign country overthrows the American Government that worries me so much as it is the thought of the American Government continuing to ignore the majority opinion of the citizens that it represents as it concentrates on the short-term best interests of corporations and its own fat wallet and bloated ego.
I am worried because my country is a country run by Terrorists in business suits that are intent on a "preventative" war that is meant to preserve their right to oil. I am worried because my country is strangling babies through sanctions that it refuses to lift, even though its war is one of the primary reasons that they need to be lifted. I am worried that I have a finger-pointing President, appointed by the Supreme Court, rather than elected by United States citizens, who presumably does more damage to more people every day than any traditional terrorist could do in a lifetime, and most likely won't be happy until he completely cuts us off from every other country, allowing America to be swallowed up in a third World War. As an American Citizen, I am particularly worried over the fact that all of this is being done in my name.
Am I really the only one wondering how I can be a citizen of a country where the Government that supposedly represents me is not representative of a single thing that I feel, say or believe? A country where the actions taken by a Government of the people, by the people, for the people is actually hurting the people, using the people and lying to the people? A country where real news is called "alternative" and the news the majority of people receive is called "infotainment?" A country that gives tax cuts to the wealthy when it hasn't even given health care to the poor? A country that continues to fight mindless wars in the pursuit of polluting fossil fuels instead of funding "alternative" energy projects? A country that leaves millions unemployed while giving million of jobs to dozens of other countries where it can still exploit and abuse employees? A country where a person caught smoking medical marijuana can be thrown in jail within days but Ken Lay still walks free? A country where we can stroll into a voting booth and choose between a conservative calling himself a "Republican" and another claiming to be a, "Democrat?" A country where we're given a national mandate, instead of having a national discussion, when 3,000 people are killed by two hijacked planes? A country that does this all in the name of "democracy?"
This is not my country. My country is the United States of America. My country is free. My country has been stolen from me. The physical country I spend my time in slaughters women and children in my name. The physical country I spend my time in has a Government making terrorist threats on a daily basis, in the name of "God." The physical country I spend my time in lets its own people starve in the streets with no access to health care as the elite few are allowed to inherit billions, without doing a single day's work. The physical country I spend my time in wants to drill, kill and send the poor the bill (in the form of a bomb, of course). The physical country I spend my time in has trillions of dollars worth of weapons of mass destruction. The physical country I spend my time in violates international law. The physical country I spend my time in is run by a dyslexic Dictator insisting on an "eye for an eye" at the same time he insists that his favorite philosopher was "Jesus Christ." The physical country I spend my time in is the scariest place that has ever been. The most rotten thing ever conceived. The most hypocritical, unjust, hateful, greedy, polluting place to ever grace and deface this planet. God Bless America. May he lay his vengeance upon whatever the hell this place is.
path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish
and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good
will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his
brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon
thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison
and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my
vengeance upon thee."
